Vera Rubin Quarter: History & Background

The Vera Rubin Quarter honors the pioneering astronomer whose observations of galaxy rotation rates provided the first strong evidence for the existence of dark matter, fundamentally changing our understanding of the universe. Despite facing discrimination as a woman in science, Rubin earned her PhD from Georgetown University and went on to become one of the most influential astronomers of the 20th century. The reverse depicts Rubin peering through a telescope with a spiral galaxy in the background.

How to Grade a Vera Rubin Quarter

Accurate grading is the single most important factor in determining a coin's value. A difference of just a few grade points can mean 10× or more in value. Examine the highest points of the design first — these are where wear appears earliest. For the finest grades, luster, strike quality, and surface preservation all matter. Professional grading by PCGS or NGC adds certainty and typically increases resale value. Read our complete grading guide →
