New Mexico State Quarter: History & Background

The New Mexico quarter features the Zia sun symbol, a sacred emblem of the Zia Pueblo people, over an outline of the state with the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in the background. The Zia symbol also appears on the state flag and represents the four directions, four seasons, four periods of each day, and the four stages of life. The inscription reads 'Land of Enchantment.'

How to Grade a New Mexico State Quarter

Accurate grading is the single most important factor in determining a coin's value. A difference of just a few grade points can mean 10× or more in value. Examine the highest points of the design first — these are where wear appears earliest. For the finest grades, luster, strike quality, and surface preservation all matter. Professional grading by PCGS or NGC adds certainty and typically increases resale value. Read our complete grading guide →
