Missouri State Quarter: History & Background

The Missouri quarter depicts the Lewis and Clark expedition's return journey through the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, with a corps of discovery keelboat on the Missouri River. The Gateway Arch, designed by Eero Saarinen, stands 630 feet tall as a monument to westward expansion. The inscription 'Corps of Discovery 1804–2004' commemorates the bicentennial of the famous expedition.

How to Grade a Missouri State Quarter

Accurate grading is the single most important factor in determining a coin's value. A difference of just a few grade points can mean 10× or more in value. Examine the highest points of the design first — these are where wear appears earliest. For the finest grades, luster, strike quality, and surface preservation all matter. Professional grading by PCGS or NGC adds certainty and typically increases resale value. Read our complete grading guide →
