Crossing the Delaware Quarter: History & Background

The Crossing the Delaware Quarter was the final design in the traditional Washington quarter series before the American Women Quarters Program began in 2022. The reverse depicts General Washington leading his soldiers across the icy Delaware River on Christmas night, 1776, in the surprise attack on Trenton that turned the tide of the Revolutionary War. This was also the first year to feature Laura Gardin Fraser's obverse portrait of Washington.

How to Grade a Crossing the Delaware Quarter

Accurate grading is the single most important factor in determining a coin's value. A difference of just a few grade points can mean 10× or more in value. Examine the highest points of the design first — these are where wear appears earliest. For the finest grades, luster, strike quality, and surface preservation all matter. Professional grading by PCGS or NGC adds certainty and typically increases resale value. Read our complete grading guide →
